Glides are devices that help in facilitating movement of heavy furniture and other items across floors. They are attached to the bottom of the feet of chairs, tables, chests, shelving, cabinets etc and provide a smooth surface for easy movement. They also prevent expensive furniture and floors from getting scratched or damaged when heavy items are moved. Generally they are in the form of circular buttons or inserts which can be attached, screwed on, fitted or fixed underneath the legs of the item that has to be moved. The felt-cushion is replaceable and does not collect oil or grease.

Wooden glides: are very attractive and blend easily with your furniture and flooring, though wood itself is not suitable to carry heavy loads and not very durable in heavy-duty applications or when the floors are being constantly washed and chemical cleaners are used. However, the addition of a metal or felt cushion can increase durability. They can be nailed, screwed or snapped on. Otherwise adhesives and prong designs are available.

Plastic: These are available in a variety of plastics and plastic compounds of high or low density. They are suitable for heavy-duty applications, are resistant to water and chemicals and very affordable. They provide smooth, easy movement and prevent marking and scratching of floors. They're also available in a huge range of designs as plastic can be easily molded. They're frequently used in offices, hospitals, restaurants and banquet-halls can be easily fitted to stacking-chairs or can be used as bumpers to separate furniture and prevent damage and noise.
