Exit out of and entry into buildings or within the same building, into adjoining outdoor spaces and also into other areas like cabinets, shelves, cupboards, chests, cellars, etc is facilitated via access hardware. These consist of locks and latches, handles, push/pull door closers, stoppers, multi-point latch lock systems etc. All these types of access hardware should not just ensure that the entry and exit points are secure and under control of those who need to allow and bar access but they should also look aesthetically pleasing, be durable, resistant to rough use, weather and climatic changes, rust, etc. Additionally, access hardware that is used in factories and other environments where there is extensive exposure to aggressive chemicals, gases, moisture, rust, grease, oils, dust, dirt and debris should be suitably treated or made of materials that can withstand such things. Compression latches with a gasket-lining eliminate noise, rattling, vibration, provide secure closure and also prevent accidental opening/closing. They are useful in facilities where environmental sealing is required. Cam-rotation latches are simple and affordable and can be used in a variety of home and interior locations. Push-lock latches, snap latches, draw latches, latch-and-lock sets, spring-turn latches, knob latches, quarter-turn and key latches are some of the various options. All these are available for different functions like heavy or light duty closing, prevention of accidental closing, eliminating noise, vibration and can be tailored to different door designs and geometry.

Locks: Window and door locking systems range from simple cam locks to sophisticated computerized locking systems depending on the specific requirements in each case. Cam-rotation locks are the basic types of locks with one or two turn keys, multiple keys and master-key/non master-key options for hotel rooms, hostels etc. Electronic lock-sets with key-less access are useful in high-security environments, whereas mechanical locks with levers and door-handles are useful in heavy duty areas like schools, offices, homes, commercial and industrial buildings. They may also have fire-rating for additional safety.

Handles, hinges: Handles provide grip and also give access via a turning mechanism fitting. They may be the lever or knob type. Depending on their function, they may be designed for heavy or light duty door applications. Hinges allow the door to stay correctly in place and open/close smoothly. Both these accessories should be chosen for their toughness, durability and ability to withstand tampering.
