Cap plugs are used in a variety of applications, mainly for protection of exposed pipe/tube ends and for the prevention of contamination by moisture, dirt, dust, debris, grease and other types of loose fragments which may damage the pipe-ends and dirty its interiors. They are also used as finishing products to cover exposed tube ends in shelving displays and also to protect the threaded or beveled ends of pipes during storage, handling and transportation.

Vinyl: or PVC is a versatile, durable, corrosion/rust resistant material which is used to manufacture cap plugs in many industrial applications. Soft and flexible vinyl is used in stretchable caps to protect pipes, hoses and electrical parts. Since it can be easily molded, vinyl is used to make caps for L-connectors, flanges etc and also in shapes like hanger-caps, pull-tabs, tamper-evident caps etc. Rigid vinyl caps are used for pipe protection and if they're dome shaped, they don't allow water to stay on the surface.

Silicone: This compound is extremely flexible and durable, can withstand great differences in temperature, is corrosion and rust resistant and is also used in a variety of medical and food-processing industries, since the purity level is very high and it can withstand high temperature sterilization processes. Cap plugs made of silicone are also flexible and can be easily fitted over tubes and pipes of different diameters. Transportation of blood products, fluids and feeding products through tubes which can be capped or plugged with silicone caps is common in hospitals and pharmaceutical facilities.
