Nylon washers or spacers are extensively used in electrical applications to provide insulation, reduction of vibration and a smooth, secure fit between two components. They also provide a smooth and friction free surface to tighten nuts and bolts and hold them securely in place. They incorporate the inherent qualities of nylon, making them rust and corrosion resistant, durable, cost-effective and easily replaceable. They are also anti magnetic and not subject to weathering and damage by exposure to damp conditions, making them good in areas where electrical insulation is required. Oil drain plug washer: These washers serve the function of a sealing gasket for oil drains in automobiles.

Fender washers: These washers have a slightly different design in that the outer diameter is very much larger than the inner one. They're used in sheet-metal, automotive and plumbing applications.

Additionally, some manufacturers may offer customized washer solutions such as self-adhesive, conical or domed shapes, notched or tab washers which are to be used in very harsh conditions such as high heat, pressure or cold conditions.
